On 16 January 2022, EDUS marked its second year as an online tuition institute. By this point, the team had moved past the messy first-year survival mode and into something steadier - a regular rhythm of classes, a growing tutor pool, and a small but loyal community of parents who had become quiet evangelists for the EDUS academic approach.
What changed between year one and year two
Year one was about proving online tutoring could work in our context - that Sri Lankan parents, especially in the Northern Province, would trust an online institute with their child's education. Year two was about doing it consistently. The same lesson quality every week. The same tutor turning up on time. The same parent update arriving when it was promised.
Consistency is unglamorous, but it is what builds a real institute. The 2nd anniversary celebration was the team's quiet acknowledgement that the boring work was paying off.
A tribute to the community
EDUS owes its second year more to the community than to any internal decision. The parents who told friends. The students who asked us to add new subjects. The tutors who stayed, then introduced their colleagues. The mentors who answered messages on evenings and weekends. The Jaffna community that gave us our home and our identity.
A reminder of why we exist
Two years in, the answer to 'why does EDUS exist?' was clearer than it had been on day one. We exist to give every student - especially those who don't have easy access to top tutors locally - a structured, personal, accountable online learning experience. Year two reinforced that. Year three was set up to build on it.
